What do you do if your brother has joined a cult?
That’s the question I keep asking myself these days. Yes, my brother who is 18 years older than me, who I have looked up to and respected my entire life has joined a cult: he has become an Obamaphile.
It’s gotten to the point to where we can’t even bust each other’s balls about the election. Last week I emailed him the above picture expecting him to say “whatever, asshole.” Instead he responded with an explosive tirade about how he’s angry because he believes McCain and Palin will get elected because of “knuckle dragging creationist dumbfucks.” He went on to say “There are two kinds of Republicans: Those who drink Kool-Aid because Jaheesus decided they should be poor slaves for the other Republicans, those who drink Gray Goose, the premium vodka imported from the country they hate: France
.”
For the record: I think the last time I did something because it was “what Jesus would do” I was about eleven years old.
For the record: I don’t drink vodka, but if I did I would not drink Grey Goose because France
can shampoo my crotch.
What makes me crazy is that so many people insist that anyone who puts an “(R)” after their name is just a carbon copy of Bush. Of course when it’s said like that it sounds ludicrous, but that’s what the Obamaphiles are preaching.
I think it’s an indication of the problem with the Two Party System. Everything is either this or that, right or left, correct or wrong, etc.
One thing’s for sure: Washington was right.
So I don’t even know what the hell to do anymore.
For as long as I can remember I’ve heard the phrase “brother against brother” in reference to the US Civil War. I’ve always found it a difficult concept to understand. After all, you’d think brothers would be in general agreement and even if they did disagree, they would not end-up on opposite ends of a WAR.
While I know I would never raise arms against my brother, I do now have a better understanding of the “brother against brother” concept. I think it shows just how polarizing this election is going to be. Four years ago I laughed when John Kerry supporters (or should I say anti-Bush voters) literally cried over the results of the election. But of course, those people’s lives went on. Unfortunately, I think this election is going to be much, much worse. I think this will be the most polarizing event in this country in 150 years.
My brother is convinced that McCain is “just another Bush” and won’t listen to a word about how McCain didn’t get the nomination eight years ago because he “wasn’t Republican enough.” He won’t listen to a word about how McCain has never asked for or received one cent of ear-marked funds when Obama has received millions and millions, much of it for clients of the lobbyist son of Joe Biden. He won’t listen to a word of how Obama’s political career was launched by William Ayers, a terrorist.
So here I am, asking myself what do you do if your brother has joined a cult?
